Okeh 2nd day bekerja selepas cuti, suasana di sekitar ofisku ini masih sunyi sepi, yg ade hanyalah makcik-makcik cleaner yg keje cuci mencuci, kereta2 di carpark pula menghilangkan diri, mereka-mereka ni masih beraya barangkali...
Sebut pasal raya nih teringat plak kisah daku beraya di perantauan suatu ketika dahulu, sempat la 2 kali raya kat kota metropolitan yg bernama London itu. (Lalu bertukar ke English slang Londoner pulok). The first one it was back in October 2006, not long after I arrived from Malaysia to complete my degree in Quantity Surveying. At that time i was staying at the students residence at New Kent Road, just a stone throw away from the university, London Southbank University.
Fasting? Biase je, just that you have to bear watching people eating down the streets, haha, oh suddenly I remembered the Pakistani shop which I went to get food supplies, oh and the pizza place for break fast, bbq chicken and jalapeno peppers were my preferable toppings. Usually I brought home the pizza and enjoyed it on my bed while its still hot, ahh heaven...
That raya memang tak rasa langsung. Takbir raya takde, lagu-lagu raya jauh sekali. I think I'm the only Malay at that uni. My neighbour the Dubai guy probably went back to Dubai to celebrate Eid with his family. Orang kaya takpe la. Thank Allah my auntie and cousins visited me, and brought rendang, haha.
The next following raya was somewhat different. October 2007. At that time I've moved to Barking. Although the place was quite far, the rent was far cheaper. 150 GBP per month only. The landlords were a couple of elderly Irish. They were very nice bunch of people.
Moreover there were more Muslims at Barking, mostly Indians and Pakistanis. More Muslims restaurant to choose from, briyani, kebabs, just name it. I still remembered the taste of their lamb briyani, having it for break fast while watching my favourite series 'The IT Crowd', SUPERB!
Raya was better than last year's, I got to know more people, went to more gathering functions, eating ketupat rendang lontong and all that, haha, just like home. Aaah, missed London a lot, we'll meet again sometime in the future ;)
